Frank baxter juvenile justice centre

In December 2020, I had the privilege of performing for the young fullas at Frank Baxter Juvenile Justice Centre on the Central Coast, that was supported by Daniel Daylight. Getting the chance to sit on the cultural program in the morning run by the brother @eric85brown and Uncle Ron and getting to yarn with these fullas about our journeys was truly special. These lads are young and full of energy but when it came time to sit around that fire and put those head bands on every single one of them were respectful and silent while listening to what Uncle Ron and Uncle Eric had to say, it was easy to forget that I was even in there until I looked up and am reminded by the barb wired fences that caged us in.

These kids are dealing with trauma that more of us would never be able to handle and most of them aren’t even 18 yet, their spirits need healing not more punishment, drugs/alcohol and crime are not part of our culture it’s something that was introduced to us, once we start connecting back to that culture is when we start to see the real change happen!
